How to Categorize Cellular ‘G’ generations on a Calendar Timeline?

By Azar

Something happens in Telecommunication industry after every 10 years.  You know where I am going with this. Let's go 40 years back. What would you see??

1G

Go 30 years back, you would see

2G

Go 20 years back, you would see

3G

and so on.

.................

Now we are on the road to 5G.   However the question is what is the trend after every 10 years and what causes it?

A picture is worth thousand words. Therefore the picture below will describe the same thoughts I am writing here.

What you see above is as follows:

In previous technologies there were no new features added. With the wide spread deployment of 2G and 3G cellular networks, explosive traffic demand, and invasive data services, the classic networks and network planning could no long serve the objectives of Cellular Planning.

Therefore now you see the rush towards 5G. It may not be a rush, but it's just time for another technology

In case if you are interested to learn more about cell planning and the details about evolution of cellular networks. You can take a look here.
